Meet Anastasia

Anastasia completed her teacher training in Biology and has secured a place at Reach Academy Feltham as a Biology teacher.

Read the Q&A below!

What was your favourite thing about the Reach Teacher Training course?

Coming together and sharing experiences from the week with other teacher trainees who are going through similar experiences and are at similar stages to me. When we come together, we can talk about positives but also negatives – and help each other learn and adapt to become the best teachers we can be. It makes you feel like you are not alone

What is the most surprising thing you learnt about yourself this year?

I didn’t realise how confident and extroverted I really am and how I am able to lead students during a lesson and support them. If you were to ask me at the beginning of the year – Do you think you can control the culture, pace and behaviour in a room? – I would have said No chance! – but I guess I can! I guess I am not as introverted as I thought.

If you could go back and tell your 8-year-old self something you know now, what would it be?

Don’t let other people bring you down and tell you how to live your life – create your vision and stick to that vision and everything will be fine.

If you could go back and tell your 17-year-old self something you know now, what would it be?

Your dream of being a teacher is going to come true, just you wait.

What are you most looking forward to about next year?

I am excited to start fresh in September. Last September, starting something I was completely new to and a new job and first job ever, was so scary! Now having all the experience I have, knowledge from literature, learning teaching techniques and behaviour management, and building relationships with students, I am excited to have a strong start and be an ECT!

Where do you want to be in 5 years time?

To be an even stronger Biology (+Science) teacher so the students love Science and they feel supported, both inside and outside of the classroom.

What are your long term career aspirations?

My long term career aspirations is teach for ages – it is all I ever want to do.

What was the funniest thing that happened this year?

Graduation day was pretty fun! But also Wednesday lunches were pretty funny.

What was the strangest/most surprising thing that happened to you in a classroom this year?

When behaviour management kicked in and students respected the classroom culture and responded well to the demerits .
